About Me

Who am I?

I am a writer, clothing designer, and lover of Asian cultures and languages. I graduated from the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in 2006 and spent about three years working in the fashion industry in Los Angeles before changing directions in my life. I returned to school in 2009 to pursue a degree in East Asian Studies. I have been living between the West Coast and Asia for the past several years.
Fashion is still very dear to me, and I continue to preserve my love for it by means of designing and creating my own clothes. The clothes in the "My Designs" section are all created by me from start to finish. I draft the patterns, cut the fabric, sew, alter, and tailor. In this way I am able to have absolute freedom and control over my creations.

This website was designed to fulfill several purposes:
    1. To visually catalog my changing style
    2. To showcase my designs
    3. To feature my wonderful friends and fashion community

What is Comme des Calliope?

The name "Comme des Calliope" is a spin off of my favorite brand, Comme des Garcons. Comme des Carcons is a French phrase, meaning "like the boys." It is a Japanese fashion company, founded by my idol Rei Kawakubo.
"Comme des Calliope" does not make any sense in French.
I don't speak French. I speak Japanese.

Blog Manifesto:

Because this is a visual catalog, I will not be posting lengthy paragraphs about the fashion industry or my personal life.
I will also not be posting photographs of runway collections, though you may occasionally see magazine clips that serve as inspiration for my designs.
Mostly, I am not interested in runway collections. If you wish to see the latest trends or collections from other designers, there are plenty of resources on the internet that can provide you with these images.
My blog is about personal style - mainly mine and my friends - and is meant to serve as a source on streetwear.
